Pair of Vintage SPORT Magazines with Mickey Mantle Covers – October 1956 & September 1961 DiMaggio/Mantle 15th Anniversary Issue

Description

The October 1956 issue shows a young Mantle in Yankee pinstripes in his batting stance, with the cover story “My Pal, Mickey Mantle” by teammate and close friend Billy Martin. Other cover lines include an All-America Football Preview and “Who’s Throwing the Spitter Now?” Cover price 25¢. It shows honest newsstand wear: surface creasing across Mantle’s jersey, edge wear and small chips along the right edge, corner rounding, and a handwritten “50” in ink on the bat. The September 1961 Special 15th Anniversary Issue has a striking dual portrait of Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle, headlined “From DiMaggio to Mantle: Epic of the Greatest Yankee Era.” Other features cover Stan Musial as “Man of the 15 Years” and Bob Friend. Bright, vivid cover colors with light edge wear. It’s a nicer copy overall, and it comes from Mantle’s 54-homer season during the M&M home run chase.
