Lot of (3) Vintage LIFE Magazines with Mickey Mantle Covers – 1956 “The Remarkable Mickey Mantle,” 1961 Mantle & Maris, 1965 “Mantle’s Misery”

Description

Three classic LIFE magazine issues with Mickey Mantle on the cover, tracing his career from peak to twilight. June 25, 1956, “The Remarkable Mickey Mantle.” Mantle grins from the dugout in this cover from the early weeks of his Triple Crown season. Mailing label at lower left. August 18, 1961, “Babe Ruth’s Challengers: Mantle and Maris.” Mantle and Roger Maris pose together with Babe Ruth’s image behind them, under the cover line “Will Yank Sluggers Smash 60 Homers? The Real Odds.” It’s a great artifact from the height of the 1961 home run chase. July 30, 1965, “Mantle’s Misery.” This dramatic close-up portrait of an aging Mantle accompanied a story on his physical struggles late in his career. Mailing label at lower left and a small mark at upper right. The covers show typical age and handling: edge and corner wear and light surface wear.
